New farmers group forming in Kona
Hawaii Farmers Union United is holding its first meeting to establish a Kona chapter at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Cooperative Extension Service’s upstairs meeting room in Kainaliu. The Kona chapter will afford Kona farmers of all products and those who support them access to a grass-roots, statewide organization that listens to and represents their concerns.
The chapter membership includes a diverse group of farmers and their supporters, as well as the presidents of the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers Association, Hawaii Organic Farmers Association, Kona Coffee Farmers Association and Kona Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation.
