Insect Management with Horticultural Oil and Kaolin Clay
Dr. Leyla Kaufman
Dept. of Plant & Environmental Protection Sciences
UH at Manoa-CTAHR
Dr. Leyla Kaufman will share results of her trials with a kaolin clay and a refined horticultural oil compared to the farmer's standard practices. Four major insect pests were monitored, Thrips parvispinus, papaya mealybug, white peach scale and mites. Preliminary results show that the horticultural oil is promising, while the kaolin clay seems less successful with some pests.
How to Use SPLAT, (Specialized Pheromone & Lure Application Technology) for Fruit Fly Control
Dr. Roger Vargas
USDA-ARS-PBARC, Hilo
Dr. Roger Vargas and his fruit fly team will also demonstrate how to use SPLAT mass trapping to reduce fruit flies in the papaya orchard. They have been getting encouraging results combining SPLAT with protein bait trials to reduce fruit fly populations on papaya farms in Keaau - Opihikao. They will also provide hard copies of their trial results and summary.
Pesticide Use Training
Derek Shigematsu
HDOA Pesticide Education Branch
Derek Shigematsu will provide an overview of Worker Protection Standards, pesticide product label interpretation, and what to expect when pesticide inspectors conduct a farm visit.
Thank you for the outreach to these farmers. As one who worked first hand with the same group of papaya farmers along with Sabina Swift I can attest that this hard working group of farmers need all the assistance they can get.

Never place the carpet back until the floor becomes fully dry. If your rug is too large, then to clean its backside you can fold it in from the sides and perform the cleaning work in separate sections. הרחקת עכברים
