Kamehameha Schools is announcing the opening of Punalu'u Ahupua'a Farms, a new 200-acre agricultural park on Oahu's windward coast.
Kawika Burgess, land asset manager at Kamehameha Schools, said the farm land is being made available specifically to increase local capacity for food production and to provide for rural economic development in Ko'olau Loa.
"Our sights are set on increasing food production on Kamehameha lands statewide, and we know we can't do it alone. We want to partner with knowledgeable farmers to advance food security efforts throughout Hawai'i," said Burgess. "Punalu'u Ahupua'a Farms will help to move us toward a more sustainable future."
According to Kamehameha's Strategic Agricultural Plan, the Schools seeks to optimize management of its agricultural lands to improve the quality of life for our people through healthy foods, good jobs, clean energy, and sustainable livelihoods.
