There is a new Insect Pest, called the Lobate Lac Scale (Paratachardina pseudolobata), which has recently been found on Oahu. At this time, it has not been identified on the other islands, but please keep an eye out for it.

This scale has a VERY wide host range of over 300 plant species in over 50 plant families that includes plants such as mango, lychee, annonas, avocado, hibiscus, ficus spp., myrtles, orchids, starfruit, macadamia and many more. At high populations, this scale can kill host plants.

Since coffee is not grown in Florida, it is currently unknown whether Lobate Lac Scale infests coffee or not.
